SNL with Father John Misty

I had the great pleasure of playing with Father John Misty on Saturday Night Live, March 4 2017. Great band, great songs. I was part of a HUGE horn section that really wailed. So much fun.

great show with Lonnie Holley

We had an incredible time performing with Lonnie Holley the other night at National Sawdust as part of their Ferus Festival. We were all a little nervous about how it would go since this was our first ever live performance with Lonnie(!), but he was channeling a higher power and thankfully showed us the way. It was an amazing experience performing with Lonnie and I hope we get to do it again soon.

National Sawdust, Jan. 6

I’m thrilled to be performing at National Sawdust on January 6th with my duo Nelson Patton and special guest Lonnie Holley. Part of their Ferus Festival, we will share the bill with renowned violinist Rebecca Fischer (of the Chiara Quartet) performing excerpts from The Afield.

About the Ferus Festival:

Every January, VisionIntoArt presents FERUS, a designated incubation period, which showcases new projects in a workshop performance setting. A four-day extravaganza of new music, theater, and visuals, VIA’s FERUS Festival features discoveries from innovative international and local artists.

new video – Mississippi Fred

My friend (and fellow Pfarmer), Danny Seim, was kind enough to make a fun little video for one of our new Nelson Patton tunes, “Mississippi Fred”. As the title suggests, the tune was inspired by Mississippi Fred McDowell and his driving guitar style. I orchestrated similar rhythms onto the trombone and used the loop pedal to layer the parts to create a full bouncing groove. Watch the video below:

Having a blast this weekend performing solo sets at Field + Supply in Stone Ridge, NY. Field + Supply is a modern interpretation of a traditional arts and crafts fair. It consists of a carefully curated selection of makers highlighting goods, old and new, from a variety of studios and workshops representing a wide range of crafts.

New Pfarmers Record

OUR PURAM is out now! It’s the second record from Pfarmers, a collaborative trio of Danny Seim (Menomena), Bryan Devendorf (The National), and me. The record is a concept album about the Rajneeshpuram community, briefly incorporated as a city in the 1980s, which was populated with followers of the spiritual teacher Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, later known as Osho. Danny’s lyrics are written from the point of view of a Rajneeshee leaving the compound.

The album is released on Joyful Noise Recordings in digital and vinyl formats – limited to a one-time pressing of 500 hand-numbered copies on pink vinyl in letterpressed jackets.

Thanks for Listening!
